"We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate." - Thomas Jefferson.

Advocacy 101: How JAUNT Operates

JAUNT is a public service corporation owned by the six localities (stockholders) that it serves: Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Louisa, and Nelson Counties, plus Charlottesville. Those governments fund JAUNT and commission it to operate in whatever areas and hours the boards of supervisors or city council desires or believes it can afford (subject to consultation with our streetwise staff). In short, JAUNT takes its direction only from those government stockholders; it cannot decide to run a service on its own.

Advocacy 102: How to Get JAUNT (or More of it)

While JAUNT answers to the elected officials, the elected officials answer to the voters. In every locality, at least one supervisor or councilor has advocated for an additional JAUNT location or expansion of hours because some of his/her constituents emailed or expressed to them in a public hearing about their public transportation needs. So, webspace visitor, it’s up to you and your friends and neighbors to get in touch with your local representative about JAUNT service. Below are the links to your boards of supervisors and city council.
